Florence Italy a must visit places if you go there

Florence is one of those cities that people dreamed of visiting hundreds of years ago. During the Renaissance it was a major center of thought expression and art of all kinds.

Many beautiful churches, sumptuous palaces and impressive monuments have been built over the centuries, making Florence one of Italy's most visited cities!

Here are some places worth a visit in Florence.

Tour through the Uffizi Gallery

One of the most breathtaking galleries in Florence. This amazing collection is located on the top floor of the Palazzo delgi Uffizi. The building was mainly used as administrative premises for the Medici Grand Duke Cosimo I, but was later partially open to the public. This is, in essence, the first public museum in Europe.

It is usually full of tourists in the morning, so if you want a peaceful enjoyment, visit the gallery in the afternoon.

Anfiteatro Romano

The Roman amphitheater dates back to the 1st century BC. It has space for 2000 patrons and is still used today. Around the theater there are other buildings like the Roman bath, two small museums as well as the house with archaeological artifacts.

Palazzo Vecchio

Originally built in the late 1200s and early 1300s by Arnolfo di Cambio, the castle known as Palazzo Vecchio now serves as a city hall in Florence. The castle was originally built to serve as a government building but was abandoned for a short period of time and later became a City Hall. Be sure to visit the two most famous rooms in the building: Sala dei Cinquecento and Studiolo. The first is in honor of the 500-member council that held meetings here, while the second is dedicated to Cosmo's son, Francesco.

Piazza della Signoria

Piazza della Signoria Square has been part of Florence's history for hundreds of years. The monk Savonarala was executed right here. It is home to many 14th-century statues including the Neptune Fountain and the Loggia dei Lanzi.

Campanile

The Gothic Belfry was designed sometime between 1266 and 1337 by Giotto. We recommend climbing the 400 steps as you will be rewarded with a breathtaking view of the city.

Santa Croce Basilica

The Church of Santa Croce is one of the most controversial and known in all of Florence. Within the church walls are graves, cemeteries and monuments belonging to Michelangelo, Galileo Galilei, Nicolas Machiavelli, Lorenzo Hiberti, Dante Alighieri. True fact - Galileo did not receive his proper burial until nearly 100 years after his death as a punishment for his attempt to prove that the Earth was not the center of the entire universe.

And of course, enjoy the magic of this city that leaves no one indifferent. Florence is simply something to be experienced.
