The village of Koleshino is located at the foot
of the Belasica Mountain, and is a small Macedonian village located 20 km from
Strumica, known for its watermelons, peanuts and agricultural products that thrive
in this area. The village is the only place in Macedonia (even in the Balkans)
where you will find a specific type of fern called royal fern (osmund regalis),
which grows up to 2 meters high and covers an area of up to 500 square meters
and is used in the textile industry. . However, the most beautiful and most
authentic decoration of the village are the beautiful rafts created by the Baba
River, descending from the highest mountain peaks. One of them is of course the
Koleshino Waterfall.
The Koleshino waterfall is located in the bosom
of Belasica Mountain, in the lower flow of the Baba River, between maple forest
and stone reefs, at an altitude of 610 meters.
With a maximum height of 19 meters and a width
of 6 meters, it is among the highest waterfalls in Macedonia. After its
occurrence, Koleshino Waterfall is a tectonic waterfall, formed between granite
stones. Above the Koleshino Waterfall, at a distance of about 100 meters, there
are several smaller smaller waterfalls in the range, 2-4 meters high, which
belong to its central basin.
After passing through the center of the
village of Koleshino, moving about 1 km up the mountain road, you will find an
interesting trail winding through the surrounding forest, and it is intertwined
with a small stream. The trail runs parallel to the creek and is then
intersected by another small, wooden bridge. If you stop for a moment at the
small bridge, in the crystal clear water you will see river crabs swimming
beneath the surface. As a visitor you will feel lost in the art of nature and
forget about your destination.
Going along this trail you will reach Koleshino
Waterfall or better yet. Access to the waterfall, along a narrow and marked
path (slippery in many places), enclosed by a wooden bridge, along stairs made
of stone, is quite difficult, especially if you are not physically prepared and
equipped. While walking, your only companion will be the fresh mountain air
that will refresh and relax you.
At the finish you will hear noisy freshness.
This is the sound of the water of Koleshino waterfall, which leaves no one
indifferent. With clear, crystalline and cold water from the Baba River, the
Koleshino Waterfall flows slowly, in a beautiful and rhythmic "ballet"
of numerous watercourses. After a brief 19-meter "play" of the
waterfall, these numerous streams unite into one whole, and it continues to
flow down the mountain.
As a visitor, for the complete enjoyment and
enjoyment of this waterfall, you will find a bridge directly in front of the
waterfall or a small resting bench under the large shade of dense green moss
trees. If you have an adventurous spirit, then for you on the left there are
wooden stairs leading to an additional trail that ends at the top of the hill
and where you can stand very close to the river as it plows down. For the rest
are available few picnic gazebo’s for a small, unusual outdoor snack.
Those who want to bring an unforgettable
experience perfectly created by mother nature, have more accommodation
available in the city of Strumica, as well as those near the waterfall.
