The eastern part of Macedonia abounds in undiscovered,
unknown or forgotten places and sites. One of them is Ponikva - the crown of
the Osogovo Mountains. The once famous place for outdoor teaching and skiing is
now waiting to regain its familiar luster.Through Ponikva there are many springs, streams and dense
forest complexes.
Motel "Sunrise" (Izgrev)
Ponikva –it’s a
tourist center and a weekend settlement on the Osogovo mountains in the eastern
part of the Republic of N. Macedonia.Ponikva is departed from the nearest city
of Kochani around 20km.Second nearest city is Probishtip.Ponikva is found on 1560 meters above sea level and it has the
cleanest and the oxygen richest air from all mountains in Macedonia.Under the Kingdom of Yugoslavia rule in 1921 the Yugoslav army found that the air in
Ponikva is 20% richer in oxygen.By that the army formed a military base in this
place so that army can perform their physical exercises . By the time in former
Yugoslavia people started building
weekend houses and with time it grew in a tourist center with two ski lifts ,hotels
and restaurants .In winter you can go skiing and in the summer you can explore
the untouched wilderness.
