Dojran is a historical city by a small lake in southeast Macedonia du Nord.Through the history it had different names ,some of them are :Polin and Polenin or Greek Dojrani.The lake is positioned in southeast Macedonia , with the Greece border, witch the lake is cut in half with the Greek border, and N.Macedonia has little bit, bigger part.
In the 5th century b.c. here lived the tribe Paionians .They used to have houses on the lake shore enclosed with cane lifted on piles above the water.The only thing that connected them with the ground was the boats.They were great swimmers and fisherman ,they even had a hole in every house so they can fish any time.They even fed their horses with fish.
The lake has an area of 43,1 km2 ,the middle temperature of the water all year round is 14.8 degrees celsius and in the summer around 23 degrees.It's a shallow water lake with biggest depth with only 10 meters. The large quantity of weeds that grow in the lake and the large number
of plankton on its surface make Dojran’s waters very helpful for
treating rheumatism, skin diseases and respiratory diseases, so many
tourists come here precisely for this.
What is distinguishable about the Dojran lakeside is the fishing method that the fishermen perform.Witch is a very old method.It is performed with the help of the cormorants, gulls and other birds that
fly above the lake, directing the fish into the baskets where they are
gathered in enormous quantities.
