Monastery "St Gavril Lesnovski"




Officially called Monastery of st Archangel Michael and st Hermit Gabriel of Lesnovo .Monastery St Gavril Lesnovski is located in the village of Lesnovo city of Probistip, Macedonia.For the first time the monastery is mentioned in 1330.In 1341 it is renewed by John Oliver an Serbian rich feudal lord and a few years later expanded.In 1937 in Skopje it is named as а seat of the newly formed Zletovo bishopric.There are many manuscripts that have been written in this monastery , that gave contribution for the Slavic language.
The village Lesnovo is one of the oldest villages in Macedonia.The village Lesnovo is also famous by it's caves , in which st Gabriel has lived in and died there as well.In these caves the population has been making high quality water mill stones.Due to their exceptional quality these stones have been supplied all over the Balkans.In the village there are hostels and a restaurants where you can rest .You can also try traditional Macedonian foods from the village housewives.
